Reset Your Heart | Week One

Welcome to week 1! This is a 3-week reflection to help you think about what you have been carrying on for so long in your heart. Week 2 will be posted next Wednesday, July 24.

Before you jump into the challenge, we want your heart to be absolutely prepared. Set aside 5-10 minutes for yourself (your Instagram can wait)

Please also share your reflections in the comment section below. We believe wholeheartedly that your thoughts can help someone else in their personal journey. You do have something to offer, don't forget that!

Please note: You can still participate and reflect even if you're not a Christian. Use the word 'Universe' instead of God if that helps :)

  Know Your Worth

She put on her rings and her jewelry
and followed her lovers,
but she forgot me. Hosea 2:13

How many days in a row do we put on something to wear but forget to put on God's garment of peace. We put on our running shoes to lose 5 pounds. We put on mascara to complete our beauty look. We put on self-help podcasts to learn the secrets to success while putting a timer on creating new meaningful relationships.

We are a lover of many things, but I wonder if any of those things can keep us whole. Hosea 2:7 illustrates a female who will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will think, "I will go back to my former husband, for then it was better for me than now." With or without a husband, my heart is always guilty of searching for the next big thing to make me feel good, be perfect, and gain control. The belief that I needed more in my life controlled my heart and soul, and damaged the self-worth piece that God put in me. True worth should not come from looks, education, marital status, or popularity. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight (1 Peter 3:3-4).

   Encouragement

You are seen. He is a God who will persuade and speak tenderly to you. You are cared for. He is a God of empathy. But if you will not listen, His innermost being will weep in secret. Because He is jealous for your affection.

  Reflection Questions

  1. What are some things that are ruling and controlling God's peace in your heart?

  2. What comes to mind when you think about God weeping in secret because He wants your love?

  3. If this is your everyday garment, what word would you choose to wear?

Additional read: Hosea 2:3, Jeremiah 13:17

  • Feeling like a failure because I don’t spend time with God like I should. I have time for everything else so what’s my excuse?? Nothing! I need more discipline in my life!!!

  • What are some things that are ruling and controlling God’s peace in your heart?

Loneliness, I’m an only child, both parents are deceased, my daughter lives in another state. I have no friends although I’m a very friendly relational person. I know who God is and I’m a believer.

What comes to mind when you think about God weeping in secret because He wants your love?
God has my love like no other, I’m special the apple of his eye. There’s no love like the fathers love. If my Father weeps, I weep. My desire is to strive to be everything he want me
To be. Living a godly life.

If this is your everyday garment, what word would you choose to wear?

Trust and patience. I’ve learned and am learning to trust God in all things and patiently wait for the things I’ve prayed for.

       ENCOURAGEMENT

      REFLECTION QUESTIONS

What are some things that are ruling and controlling God’s peace in your heart?
The things that are controlling my heart is stress/anguish about my sister and parents. I’m the youngest daughter of my parents. My sister who is the oldest is mentally challenged, so I have to really be the older sister. I’m her back up caregiver, however; my parents are getting older so everything will be left up to me to take care my sister and my parents. I do a lot for them and most of the time , I do neglect myself. I know God does not put on us more than we can bear, but I know that God (the creator) has given me this task to help as much as I can.

What comes to mind when you think about God weeping in secret because He wants your love?
What comes to mind when I think about God is that he wants me to love un conditionally no matter what even if I have to sacrifice certain things.

If this is your everyday garment, what word would you choose to wear?
The word I choose to wear is perserverance, because I have been through a lot and will continue to move forward with God’s help.

  • What are some things that are ruling and controlling God’s peace in your heart? Worrying/stressing about taking care of everyone, and not myself most the time. I have a disabled friend who suddenly had no one to help care for him, he asked me if I would help… mind you I only know him for about a year. Of course I said yes, but his health problems, taking care of dr appointments, his finances, seeing he has everything he needs, is very time consuming. He lives 15 miles away, which is not far, but far enough to cut up the day. I also help home school my grandchildren, 5 days a week, and the hours with them, plus prepping the curriculum, is time consuming also. I LOVE my time with them, and they come first, but the kids, the friend, my husband… all keep me from being as healthy as I should. I have health issues, but tend to ignore myself a lot. I do talk with my Father every night when I go to bed. He knows my heart, I know He loves me, and I always ask for direction…. Serving Him by helping our daughter, helping my friend, gives me a peace from God that keeps me going. It can all just be overwhelming at times.
What comes to mind when you think about God weeping in secret because He wants your love? Sadness that I don’t share with others HIS love for all of us more…. yet a joy that He loves us SO much, such love is immeasurable…..
If this is your everyday garment, what word would you choose to wear? Faith…. knowing He WILL take care of us, and serving Him, showing everyone his love and guidance is real and pure.

  • READING ALL THESE MESSAGES HAS REALLY MADE ME CRY! SO MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH VERY HARD TIMES AND IT MAKES ME VERY SAD! I CAN JUST IMAGINE HOW GOD FEELS!!

  • 1.What are some things that are ruling and controlling God’s peace in your heart? Sadness, hurt because in the last few months my dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, I lost a dear friend to an overdose and I have lost a huge number of friends because of a lack of communication and assumptions. My heart still hurts everyday.
2.What comes to mind when you think about God weeping in secret because He wants your love? God has my love. I have found Him. He is my savior and because of Him I am becoming stronger each day.
3.If this is your everyday garment, what word would you choose to wear? I would choose to wear happiness because God has my love and He provides happiness in my heart.
