This month, we asked our alleyMUSE community to share what they love about their job. Our job takes enormous amounts of our energy and time. Consequently, for happiness in life and positive mental health, we need to love the job we have - and this can be hard at times!
We want to thank everyone that sent in a submission and for continuing to work hard in their job to make the world go round.
And the 3 winners of the Over-The-Top Luxurious Jetsetters Sets are:
Tracy Trump, Drug & Alcohol Counselor
"Tracy Trump is my name and I am a drug and alcohol counselor in an all men’s prison. There are so many things I love about my job but mostly would be to help encourage the change in their lives and then the day the miracle happens when they do change and they become a different person and ready to leave and enter back into society as a new man."
Chris Love, Homeschool Teacher
"Hi! My name is Chris Love. My job is teaching Language Arts to my 7 and 9 year old granddaughters! Yes, I help home school them. I am a 72 year old retired elementary school librarian and classroom teaching assistant! After retiring, and pursuing my other hobbies and interests for a couple years, our daughter and her husband decided to home school their children and asked if I would help. I have been working 3 years with the girls, preparing 2 levels of the Language Arts, which includes reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and they wanted to learn cursive, so I am teaching them that also. We work 5 mornings a week, for 3-4 hours. And I also just started teaching them Spanish as a second language!
Why do I love my job? I get to see my grandchildren (there are 5 total) almost every day! They are wonderful, loving, well-mannered kids, who love reading and being read to. It is so exciting to see them succeed in learning how to spell a difficult word, or read with no mistakes, and lots of feeling. It is so rewarding when they finally understand a concept and that 'light blub' goes off! They get so excited to get good scores on spelling tests, and love reading on their own, especially history books. I have prep work every night for the next day, but this is truly a labor of love, and I can't imagine my life being any other way. Never expected to be going back to work at age 69, but have never enjoyed a job more. And believe me, I loved being a librarian, and working in the classroom in our public schools."
Shenika Freeman, Registered Nurse Labor & Delivery
